Channel 5 last night (Monday) new series A&E Crash site emergency.

Patient had suffered cardiac arrest while driving. Very poorly and touch and go.

When stable, had angiogram and fitted with pacemaker. Quite good coverage of the whole procedure from opening the device package to pushing and shoving to get it in.

Despite worries of possible brain damage from loss of circulation, made good recovery.

That sounds very interesting! I will have to watch it.
In my most recent pacemaker operation I was asked what my favourite music was. I said' The Rolling Stones' 

For the entire 2 hour operation the Stones were played. Much as I love them I was worried the surgeon would be unable to concentrate while Jumping Jack Flash and other songs were played ! Fortunately he did an excellent job. I had to have 2 of my 3 leads replaced and he did this successfully.

How interesting.

The pacemaker bit of the programme is towards the end.

When I had my first device in 2005, they asked me what music I would like.

Taken a bit on the hop, I said you choose.

They decided on Iggy Pop The Passenger. That's the only one I remember.

The second device was totally unplanned and I spent the whole time under a shroud having a hallucinogenic light show.

Next time I'll take my own but no idea what. Maybe Fleetwood Mac in the Stevie Nicks Lindsay Buckingham era..

Thank you Piglet.  I made the effort to watch the catch up Episode 1 of Martin, 76, who suffered a heart attack behind the wheel.  

I see they didn’t find any blocked arteries during an angiogram, so ordered a Cardiac MRI to confirm the cause for Martin's heart attack while driving.  The MRI confirmed Martin had had an earlier heart attack, some months or perhaps even years earlier and that earlier heart attack caused scarring at the back of his heart, damaging the electrical wiring causing some short circuits.  The Consultant electrophysiologist recommended a pacemaker defibrillator because he couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't suffer another similar episode.

I almost gave up watching the catch up episode due to advertising on Channel 5.com as it wouldn't let me skip the ads (!) but it was worth watching.  I see Martin only had a local anaesthetic.  He was so grateful to the team treating him, but vowed he wouldn't be driving his grandchildren anymore

For filling in the details.

My goodness, what a lucky man to get all that attention on the scene and someone there to do CPR 

Plus the hospital care to pull him through.

We have at least three defibrillators in the town, but CPR is the life saver.
