Keto Diet

Anyone able to do Keto with their PM?

I have problems with low blood pressure, but that seems to be my only problem.

Not the pacemaker's fault

I tried keto a while back. I wasn't warned about the "keto flu" ahead of time. I started to feel absolutley awful, figured it couldn't be doing my heart any favors, and went back to a more "normal" diet. I still limit carbs where I can and focus on lean protein and veggies as much as possibe. Mostly I consider calories in EVERYTHING. Lost 20 pounds pretty easily but now kind of stuck, so thinking of cutting back a bit more, but I have been feeling really good.

Keto Diet

I see no reason why you cannot do the Keto Diet. However, unless you limit the salt and insure that the fats are mostly healthy fats like salmon & olive oil (that may be difficult), your cardiologist may not like it. Thing is; you can eat lots of stuff that you'll love while losing weight (like steak, burgers w/o bread, wings, etc), but many of those things will negatively impact your cholesterol.

I have not done the keto, but have done the south beach diet which is very similar, a couple of times. Getting rid of or lowering the carbs can help you lose the weight pretty quickly. If you decide to do this, be prepared to suffer through the first couple of weeks. Not trying to discourage you, but the initial phase is very difficult as you withdraw from the carbs. You are gonna feel like crap. Frankly, the south beach diet is also tough during the intial phase. An alternative is to simply go on a low carb diet by maintaing carb intake below 100/day to 150/day and watching the calories. You can still eat plenty of fats, but a lower ratio than the keto diet. It is much easier and healthier, but it does take a little longer to lose the pounds.

Whatever you choose, I appreciate your intentions and wish you good luck!

Dave

Thanks, Dave. I will be more prepared now.
