Beta Blocker, Switch back

Hello All,

I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and advice over the last few days.

My cardiologist finally replied this morning and advised that I directly go back onto nadolol which i was on before. It is very annoying as I could have just syayed on nadolol in the first lace, but never mind. I have taken todays dose of nadolol so hopefully that should be it for the symptoms.

The beta blocker change was due to an increase in fatigue, which my cardiologist said could be down to the beta blocker use, but I would take some tiredness over how I have been feeling over the last few days any day.

I mainly wanted to make this post to advise anyone stopping or changing beta blockers to consider a tapering off period, as withdrawal is a real thing and, in my experience, is absolutely horrible.

I want to thank everyone again for their support and advise,

Thank you,

Hayden

Happy to hear you are back on your original medication

I feel safer knowing you are back on the original beta blocker, Hayden.  Looking at Nadolol, I see there are much higher doses (160 mg, 240 and 320 mg strengths), so 80 mg wasn’t a particularly high dose in any event.

Not all patients are the same when stopping beta blockers and unfortunately there is no clear policy on how to safely come off one beta blocker and start another.  Sometimes advice from a pharmacist is as important as getting advice from your cardiologist/GP.  I also listen to what my own body is telling me and I always stop a medication over a longer period of time than recommended.  I also request to start a new medication slowly over a longer period of time so that I never trigger unwanted symptoms.

I send my best wishes and hope that you remain safe and well.

I feel much happier too

Thank you as always Gemita,

I feel much happier now that I am back on my orignal beta blocker, i'm sure the immediate stopping of it and switching to a new one was what caused those horrible symptoms. Now I am back on Nadolol I will hopefully be back to normal and feeling better,

Thank you again for all of your help,
