Myocarditis

Do any of you know anything about  or anyone who developed myocarditis after the covid vaccine? I'm suspecting my decline in EF from 60-65 to 35-40 within a year and 3 months was due to the covid shot! I had  heart flutters, breathlessness after the shot but many of my complaints were dismissed because some tests at the time came back normal. Now I'm dealing with heart failure, cardiomyopathy , low EF and left ventricular dysfunction , this all happened in a year and 3 months! I'm puzzled

myocarditis

Myocarditis after COVID vaccines is extremely rare. It has been reported mainly in young males and usually self-limiting. Most people recover quickly.

In addition to to breathlessness and fluttering, many people report chest pain.

Many viral and bacterial infections can cause myocarditis and sometimes the cause is never found. The same is true with heart failure. Sometimes the cause is clear, such as a myocardial infarction and sometimes it remains a mystery.

I am guessing you are looking for a cause for your condition, but even if it was a vaccine, that event has passed and will not make a difference in your heart failure treatment.

I am wishing you all the best. I know personally that cardiomyopathy is no picnic.

Cardiomyopathy

Are you paced in the right ventrical? Pacing Induced Cardiomyopathy (PICM) is a possiblilty. I spent the last 10 years with a device in the right ventrical without EF issues. The last 2 years or so I became paced @ 100% or very close to it and it hit me. Same as you, EF dropped to 35-40. Now with a CRT things are improving.

As far as myself, I didn't get any vaccine so that is out. It leaves me with PICM, or maybe I partied a with a little too much alcohol :)

Either way, hoping for wellness and improvement for both of us. Good luck

I had a pacemaker since 2019, was doing well ( so I thought?) but this past year was complaining of heart flutters, breathlessness and suffered an episode of V Tach in March, echocardiogram showed my EF dropped to 35-40 from 60-65 in about a year!  In April, I underwent a pacemaker extraction operation.  They replaced my old pacemaker with a new 3 lead pacemaker, now both ventricles are paced! It's an ICD with a defibrillator.  I hope my EF improves! I have an echocardiogram scheduled for July 6, so I'm praying my EF shows improvement .  Thank you for comments and good health to all

CRT may take time to show any real benefit, so you may need to be patient

Yes CRT can take three months or even up to a year to show any real benefit, that is why they scheduled your repeat echocardiogram for 3 months.  Little improvement would be expected before three months.  Some patients are not helped by CRT alone and may need a variety of treatments.  Some sadly will not improve despite heart failure treatment, but a 35-40% EF in my opinion is still treatable and it sounds as though you have been given the best possible chance to improve your condition.

The fact that you now have a Defibrillator tells me that you have a significant arrhythmia to treat (like VT).  It is hard to know whether your Covid vaccine was the culprit/trigger for such an arrhythmia?  After my Covid vaccines I did notice increased arrhythmias and other symptoms, but I also noticed these during and long after I suffered a severe Covid illness (prior to receiving vaccination), so who really knows what caused your heart failure.

I attach a link on causes of heart failure in case it is of help.  Please copy and paste into your main general browser to open.  I wish you well too
