Reasons of anxiety

After reading like hundreds of posts in this sweet little community, I came to the conclusion that post op anxiety is very common. Even I have suffered from it and still kind of suffering. I can confirm that the anxiety and depression comes from thinking of our future with the pacemaker. Basically the main concerns are like what will happen to our leads in long run , what might happen if the lead extraction surgery goes wrong, what might happen if some pacemaker induced cardiac problems occur etc. You guys will laugh at me if I tell you how I actually get anxiety attacks! ! I start checking some person's profile and if I see the person had posted like 12 years ago and never posted anything after that, I immediately start to assume that, the person is probably dead because of some malfunctions in their pacemaker or some cardiac problems because of the pacemaker ๐Ÿ˜‚ I sometimes laugh at myself!! Like seriously! ๐Ÿ˜‚  We all know that death is the ultimate truth but still we get super stressed when the thaughts of dying comes to us. What a strange thing our mind is ! We came here without anything, we will also depart without anything. This line is kind of giving me hope! I am going to be a regular person in this community and will share each and every event of my life with pacemaker. I am doing well except some random pvc's, anxiety problems and might be anxiety related arrhythmias. My next check up is due next week. I guess I will be fine. Sorry for my bad English.

You're so refreshingly honest about your vulnerability. Folks who quit posting probably no longer needed support! They went on with their lives. Having a pacemaker faded into the background.

My sons will tell you some of my favorite sayings:

Don't worry in advance!

This is just for now, not forever!

Just do today. Your eventual manner of death is an unknown. Those leads are there now and doing their job. If they go bad, they can be fixed. You need the device-the odds are in your favor that nothing bad will happen. I was initially worried about all the things you mentioned. Here I am two years later, and my life is too busy to think of my pacemaker. At first I was so freaked out I wouldn't leave my home alone. Now I go everywhere.

Your brain will finally realize that you are fine. No need to be on high alert!

As for your English...it's great!  I cannot speak your language at all๐Ÿ˜†

You can "openly" admit to your feelings which is a gift and I am glad you are sharing your thoughts with us

Baban, by openly admitting to your feelings of anxiety, that is half the battle already won.  By bringing these feelings out in the open, they can no longer harm you.  It is only by suppressing our feelings and keeping them "inside" can they start to cause problems.

I am glad you can laugh at yourself sometimes.  That is an excellent way to relieve any tension.  I think you are doing extremely well despite all your concerns.

The only time any of us can live is in the present.  I am certainly not going to worry about what might happen in the future.  Stay happy and well and thank you for sharing this special message

Anxiety

I had been on anxiety disorder medication for 1 year. I know how anxiety hits out of nowhere. That is why I openly speak about my concerns to everybody and try to make them laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyone will laugh after hearing my silly concerns.

I too still get anxious

Hey Baban, as has been said by many in this community, anxiety is a common feeling. Doctors can explain all they want but it takes the recipient to believe in the power of the gift given, which takes time for most. I'm four months post op and still have moments. I'm slowly learning to trust in my Flux Capacitor. I'm slowly returning to performing music live

My cardiologist told of the drummer who plays for Elton John (not Nigel Olsson), who he'd operated on, was back to performing live within a week of surgery against doctors advice...it was his livelihood so I guess he felt he had to speed up the process. Hearing this makes me feel slack but I've said from the start that I would pick up the sticks and drum again. I'm much better now than I was with the help of my rockstar wife and close family & friends who've checked on me constantly and encouraged me. When I feel myself dip I do the best I can to not dwell on it and just remember....I'm Alive!

I wish you all the best.

Cheers, Paul

Your bio says you are an electrical engineer.  That is both good and bad (Im am one too). As we know a bit of the realities of products and designs but at the same time.... we know the products and designs.  Not complicated to understand these devices.  I have four leads, one is broken, not removed.  I am running on a 35 year old lead a 28 year old lead and a oh, maybe 5 year old lead.  (biventrical).  have had the major brands of devices, on number five.  (yeah my life span per device is not stellar).

As an engineer you know your car wheels can fall off, the road can collapse your house can collapse on you at any time, etc (not trying to trigger you, hoping to help).  and you manage these realities.  this is just another reality.  these devices are significantly more reliable and better quality than commercial off the shelf products.  this site is mostly people who are concerned, for everyone here either with some strange problem or a normal fear, there are thousands of folks that are doing great and have no issues whatsoever.

anxiety is very real, panic attacks, etc are very real, depression is very real.  being able to open up about it is step one, there are many folks professional or not that can help.  No one solution that works or worked for any one of us will necessarily work for you, you have to find your path.

You can do this, the pacemaker WILL become something you forget about, like your belly button or a middle toe, literally you will forget you have it most of the time.  You will be fine.  You can find a path to this peace.  The ones that have not posted in 12 years found their peace and dont have the axiety or fears or questions that would bring them back to this site.

You know you're wired when...

Your device acts like a police scanner.
