Medtronic A2DR01 3 lead

Good afternoon to all, I just jointed the club. This is my first post.

I have a 3 lead pacemaker, only 2 leads are connected as per the doctor who installed my pacemaker. The doctor stated at the time of install 2018 the 3rd lead is there in case in the future you need it.

I am trying to get a MRI, my local hospital head MRI technician stated they can not do an MRI due to the open 3 rd wire, it could possibly cause burning from the MRI. 
Has anyone had this issue?

Hi Richard, welcome to the club!

Something doesn't sound right about what your MRI tech said. I had a device upgrade last year, and the EP gave me the choice to remove one lead, or leave it and cap it. If I had left it, I would not be able to get another MRI. I opted to remove the extra lead. Perhaps the tech is confused about there being an unattached lead in your chest, instead of an unassigned port to add a lead? Can you contact your device clinic, or perhaps the manufacturer?

It appears that the third lead is indeed capped off, so it would make sense that the "MRI conditional" requirements aren't met.  The A2DR01 is only a two-chamber pacemaker.  It's not a CRT-P, which would have somewhere to plug the third lead, though I've never heard of this being done (either a spare lead or using a CRT pacemaker where a two chamber pacemaker could be used). There is a lot that I've never come across though.

My pacemaker is only 2 leads  as described by AgentX86.

The 3 rd lead is not connected. I'm not sure why the doctor put it in knowing I would have issues with the MRI. Still trying to figure out what to do.

Thinking about this a little more, the only reason that I can imagine that a third lead was inserted would be that the cardiologist wasn't happy with the attachment of one of the others.  If this is the case, he should have just tried again.

I'd be asking the question, noting the MRI problem he caused.

If you have any leads not connected in your heart, you cannot get an MRI. It's not safe.
