Crestor ( rosuvastatin) 5mg

I've been taking this statin for a month and half now! I've never had red swollen gums. I've never had any problems with guns or teeth!   I noticed a gum is red and swollen above a tooth.  Does this statin cause swollen gums?  Has anyone has gum issues with this medicine?

If it's just one tooth, it could be something caught in the gum or a problem with that tooth. Don't assume it's the statin, call your dentist.

Not a statin problem.

Not Crestor

I take Crestor. Gum disease is not one of the adverse reactions of this medication!

Gums

I had a change of dentist recently.

The new one is quite keen on scoring dental health and I asked him what his scoring meant.

Obviously it included gum disease.

He was talking to the nurse and pointing out to her that one of my medications was causing some low level gum swelling. I can't remember which one it was, but it certainly wasn't a statin. It was either Omeprazole or one of the hypertension medications (beta-blocker, calcium channel or ACE inhibitor)

Also, beware getting dentists on the root canal treatment path. I had a bit of inflammation on one gum and before I knew it, he was opening up my tooth. "Oh, it won't hurt, the nerve is dead".

When I started complaining about the pain, he suddenly realised he got it wrong and that was the end of that treatment.

My statin is Atorvastatin 40-mg, changed from Simvastatin.

Not aware of any problems with it, and very effective. Cholesterol is never mentioned now.
