you have to find one that is for where you live.  I recall when i was your age it was costly.  Was told if i was willing to see doctors 2 hours away it could cost me less.  I told them get real.  Best of luck to you.

I'm 78 and on Medicare.  My AARP Supplemental is over $300 a month and my AARP Rx is over $100 a month PLUS the cost of Medicare.   I exist on Social Security and a small annunity.

I see that you are young. Can you stay on your parents for a while longer? Your best bet will be through your employer. My husband and I have chosen jobs based on insurance. Sucks, but fact of ife when you have medical expenses.

My husband's employer had 3 options. I checked which ones take my ep and primary because I'm not willing to compromise on those. So, they need to be in network. Next I looked at prescription coverage because I am on an expensive asthma inhaler. The middle plan was cheaper every month on the inhaler, but the difference in premium was more than what I'd save on the inahler.

High deductibles are killer. Many don't cover much of anything until you meet the deductible so get the lowest deductible you can afford.

The least expensive plans are Obamacare however check to make sure your doctors are on those because a lot won't take it.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. It's somewhat easier since they are no longer able to disqualify based on pre-existing conditions. This is something I've had to deal with all my life as I was born with a condition. Sometimes an insurance broker will be helpful but your best bet is going through an employer because they will have better options and sometimes subsidize the cost.

The Obamacare sites should give you an idea of what's available to you.  As others have said, it will be expensive.  I had very good coverage through my emloyer but with his subsidy plus my montly premium, it worked out to $25K per year. It was very good.

Finding an empoyer with insurance isn't impossible (it was a given in my career path) but it will probably still be very expensive. Companies, above fifty people or so don't actually have insurance.  Their insurance "pool" is their employees.  They hire an insurance company to do the paperwork.  Companies know how expensive these things get.

Irrelevant Medicare stuff follows:

I have medicare through a previous employer.  I had to go to an Advantage plan this year because that's where they went.  It would have cost me another $5K/yr to stay with the supplimental.  I looked at the Advantage and, at least for now, it's every bit as good as the supplimental 'G' I had and the prescription plan is somewhat better. My supplimental wasn't nearly as expensive as DOCKLOCK's though (unless he's counting two people).  It was about $130 for each of us.

Prescriptoins are the killer.  I have two drugs (Eliquis and drops for glaucoma) that run around $400-$500 per month, each [*].  My wife is on a diabetic drug that's around $800/month.  It's complicated but after about this time of the year, we'll be paying 1/4 of that total instead of $40 each.  The previous policy I had with the Medicare Supplimental was 33% to 40%, plus $70 per month (for each of us).

[*] A third drug is crazy. According to the insurance formulary it's about $300/mo but I can get it from the supermarket drug store for $25, with no insurance at all. Even wilder,  I had to get special dispensation from the Pope before the insurance would cover it at all.

This is all set up by or is controlled by the federal government.  ...and people wonder why I don't want any more "help".

I had insurance through my employer at no cost to me (it was a union job). $200 deductible, then paid 80% of most visits and procedures. $2500 max out of pocket per year. I hit the max out of pocket every year for the last 4 years.

Now I'm Medicare with premiums like docklock.

I agree with seeing if you can be on your parents' insurance.
