Intro

Hi, I'm new to the group.
I had a St Jude PM2272 ICD implanted on 2022/04/08.
It's been approximately 6 weeks and at times I feel almost like a itching burning sensation on the cut wound, should I be concerned or is it just part of the healing process?

healing

Sounds like healing! As long as there isn't new redness, puffiness, streaks or oozing, which are signs of infection. When in doubt, have someone take a look at it, but itching and burning and zinging sensations are all a normal part of healing. You can put something on it now, that should help. I like vitamin e or aloe, just make sure you use something all natural with no extra dyes, perfumes or preservatives.

Feelings

Welcome to the group.  Sorry you had to find us.

Tracey is right.  You've been sliced open.  Certainly there has been some nerve damage and as you heal, these nerves are going to make their complaints known.  You never know what sorts of odd sensations you're going to have.  Itching is one of the more common. "Ant bites" is another common description.

If there are no signs of infection, there is nothing to worry about.  If it does look like it's infected you have to get medical help ASAP.  If that means a trip to the ER, so be it.  Infections around pacemaker leads can be fatal. Infections can follow the PM leads straight to the heart.

healing!

Agree with all responses, I am a little over 4 weeks in, I have that same pinching, sometimes a bit painful esp with movement. No swelling or oozing or infectious signs. I agree its all a little unnerving. It feels exactly what it is. - it really does feel like a hunk of metal inserted under my clavicle, ouch!!!! I know from having a loop recorder previously (explanted when the pm was placed) that things will take a while before settling down. Hope you feel better soon! I guess we need to be patient!

Thanks

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
