fatigue after 11 years, 2nd pacer.

I keep reading about all the activity y'all are doing, hiking, walking, sports etc. After 11 years of pacing at 100% ( A year after my 2nd one) I am so tired I can't get out of bed. What is going on?

Ongoing fatigue

Sprinklergal, if after 11 years of pacing and presumably pacemaker adjustments you haven’t had any improvement in your fatigue, I think you need to look elsewhere for answers since clearly the cause for your symptoms are not due solely to your heart condition which led to your pacemaker.  I see from your history you have other health conditions going on as well, including fibromyalgia, ?arrhythmias (AF) and some hypertension.  I see too that you are on medication for your hypertension and that may make your fatigue even worse.

I have a history of chronic fatigue syndrome/ME caused by a virus which was never identified.  I fought chronic fatigue for years before being referred to a specialist hospital, so I have an idea of what you are going through.  I would recommend you speak to your doctor and tell him/her exactly what you have told us “I keep reading about all the activity y’all doing, hiking, walking, sports.  After 11 years of pacing at 100% I am so tired I can’t get out of bed.  What is going on?”  Any caring doctor should go through your history very carefully and try to find the source of your severe fatigue, since there are so many possibilities, but you need to keep pushing for answers.

Remember though, we are not all actively hiking or doing other sports at this Club!  Some of us are "physically" affected by our heart condition or have varying degrees of heart failure or other serious health conditions which may limit daily activity.  I hope your symptoms improve quickly

The extreme fatigue that you describe dosn't seem to be related to your PM. Probably is from heart failure or heart valve disease.

Medications?

I would guess medications.  Most of the meds to lower blood pressure or control heart rate also tend to make people drowsy, and the more you take the more tired you are.  You might speak with your doctor about switching to an alternate drug.  I had to experiment with my beta blocker before finally finding Bisoprolol at a very minimal dose.  We are all different so it will take some time and experimenting that most doctors don't want to do or don't have the time to monitor so you'll may have to push for it.
