I just want to underscore what David posted...It's completely normal to have anziety and depression after an unanticipated pacemaker implant. I've found that it helps to understand all you can about your condition and then get on with your life !
All the best to you - it will get better !
Yep!!

Hello,
Yep -- I would say I'm still experiencing anxiety and depression on this very day. PM implanted Sept of 2021 unexpectedly and still suffering from other issues (vision/motion spells) which only make matters worse.
I just try to focus on the good and take things day by day. Sometimes it's easier said than done. Just focus on when you're feeling good and when you aren't, try not to get worked up and try to remind yourself that you're OK. I'm confident that in time, this will all be in our past and we can resume normal life. But for now, let's just embrace it and try to tackle it and lessen its powers for if we ignore it, then we are only hiding or running from it.
Best of luck
Jer

Yes, I did. I felt like my concerns were brushed off repeatedly. I grew to distrust the doctor, and many of the staff members.
I switched to another office and this has done a lot to restore my trust and decrease anxiety. That, and I started a mindfulness/meditation practice.
Everything really is going to be all right

We did a poll on this some time back. You might want to look at it. You'll see that some anxiety is part of the pacemaker experience for lots of people. Go to the Poll box, click on "View results" then scroll down to "View previous polls."
For most people getting a pacemaker is a completely novel experience--something we have little understanding of and know next to nothing about. It's human nature to find the unknown scary.
The best cure for fear of the unknown is knowledge. Fortunately, you have already made a start on acquiring knowledge by coming here. We have many very knowledgeable members--people who know alot and also have a pacemaker themselves, so they know what it's like to live with one. Another good resource is YouTube. Type in YouTube How do pacemakers work and start getting familiar with the subject.
So don't be shy about asking about anything that's worrying you. Someone here has probably had the same concern and someone here can provide the knowledge you need.
You know you're wired when...
You fondly named your implanted buddy.

Consider yourself to be completely normal. My need for a pacemaker was sudden. I just went into complete heart block upon awakening one morning. I have to tell you that anxiety and depression accompanied my sudden pacemaker implant.
A very kind nurse helped me through it by introducing me to other pacemaker patients around my same age. I learned that the pacemaker did not have to define who I was and how I lived my life. I can tell you that after having it now for well over 35 years, it hasn't. My life has been completely normal in every way. At some point you just need to make up your mind that you can live your life without wondering or even thinking about your pacemaker. Try to think of it as your friend and just get on with your life.
I wish you the very best with a very happy future!
Sincerely,
David
