So I just used a smart scale without realizing I’m not really supposed to?!

Hey everyone!!

So I got my pacemaker June of last year and since recovery I haven't worked out the way I used to so I gained a few pounds and I decided to buy myself a smart scale.

I got on my scale today about 2 or 3 times then as I was looking at info online I realized I'm not supposed to be using these?! My question is, should I get checked out immediately to confirm there were no interferences? I feel fine but I'm a little paranoid after I read the label.

it's my own fault for being ignorant and not reading everything beforehand.

Had anyone ever had any issues after using one of these scales?

Thanks!

You shoudn't

You shoudn't use these scales but you're OK, so don't sweat it.  They won't damage your PM but they can cause "over-sensing", which may change your heart rate, maybe dangerously. You'd know if something really bad happened.  You're OK, so there is no reason to do anything now.

Problem? I don't know.  Haven't taken the chance.

Scale

I use a smart scale all the time and feel nothing, and my under-lying heart rate is about 30. Wearing something on your feet should be enough to block any electrical current.

it's fine

It's not the scale itself but the current it uses when it calculates BMI. If this is optional on your scale, turn that part off. It's not going to do any damage, worst case it interferes temporarily while you are using it. If you feel fine, there's nothing to worry about.

Turn Off Feature?

Hello,

As others have said, you should be fine if you didn't immediately feel any discomfort. I bought a fancy smart scale before my PM implant and was bummed to learn I couldn't use it anymore -- until I discovered that you can turn off the BMI stuff, thus making it PM-friendly.

I would look into this or at worst case, wear some socks or something before climbing on?

Take care

SMART SCALE

Don't become paranoid. If the smart scale had disrrupted your PM, you should know it by now. Your home monitor would have sent a message to your EP about detecting an abnormality and you would have received a phone call from his office. Of course, don't use the scale again until you get the EP permission.

You know you're wired when...

Your kids call you Cyborg.
