Pacemaker

I have a Pacemaker Model W3dr01/5076-52  Implanted Nov 2020

I have heard that heart monitor wrist watches can interfere with a Pacemaker.

Can anyone advise me if this is so. My thanks in anticipation of your answer Regards Bazz

Interference

Bazz:

I haven't heard of the pacemaker being affected by heart monitor wrist watches.  They are much too small, the internal magnets too weak, and the unit too far away (on the wrist), to even interfere with the pacemaker.  However there have been  quite a few reports of the monitor on the watch being affected because of the pacemaker.  i.e. the watch either over reports or under reports the heart rate.  We get quite a few notes on the forum where the person thinks the watch is being accurate when it isn't.

I wore one of the devices for years and it was great at giving me a ball park number of my heart activity but I never depended upon it to give me a beat-by-beat number.  I also used it to track my walking mileage and it was fairly accurate but didn't give me a to-the-foot reading.  As like everything else, the newer ones are getting better but I wouldn't use them to try to track my pacemaker activity.  The numbers you get from the pacemaker itself during your pacemaker check up are much more accurate  and that's what I use in my calculations.  During your pacemaker check up you can always request a report showing activity.

Safe - yes

Accurate - no

Why not just learn to check your pulse?  Save your money.

The pacer can interfere with the monitor and make it inaccurate. They are safe.

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
