Safety

Is it safe for me to be in pool with grandbaby & no one else is around?  I'm very anxious that I might faint or have a heart attack while alone with her.  I keep her week days.  She's 8 months old.  I'm 2 months out from implant, no problems & doctor had said I could return to normal activities.   Just a lot of anxiety over this even though physically I feel better now that my heart rate is above 30.

Hi Stephanie - good to hear that you're feeling well after your implant.  Since you feel very concerned about taking baby into the pool when it's just you two, perhaps you should reserve that activity for when others are around.  I'm sure there are many other fun things you and baby can do together.  Enjoy this special time with the little one :)

This would depend on your situation.  If the only problem you have is electrical (no iscemia or other structural heart issues), you're no more likely to have a heart attack than anyone else. The pacemaker isn't going to fail, so if your pacemaker completely "fixes" your electrical problem, that's good too.

However, swimming alone isn't recommended for anyone.  Since this would be putting another in danger, I wouldn't do it if I were completely healthy.  A fall can be a disaster and I can't think of a place that falls would be more common.  I probably would swim alone but it's not a good idea. With an eight-month old, no, it's a very bad idea but not because you have a pacemaker.

To make you feel  secure, I would suggest that the baby have a a flotation device on.  That you call your neighbor before you get in the pool and tell her/him that you will be in for 15 minutes, or however long.   If you do not call them back by then they should come by.  Please do remember to call them.

I see no reason that you cannot be in the pool with her.  You were before you knew you had problems.

I swim all the time by myself have been doing that for 30 years.

I believe that you're still in that adjustment period in wnich you're not sure what the PM does or doesn't do for you. If you doctor told you that you are allowed to resume your normal activities, I would sume that yu're not about to lose conciousness or die suddenly. More to reassure you, rather than for safety, I would recommend to have at least one other person in the vecinity, until you get enough confidence in your device.

You know you're wired when...

You need to be re-booted each morning.
