I had my pacemaker put in on may 29, 2007. My heart rate was down to 36 so I really needed it. I feel better b/c I can walk but I do get short of breath and breath heavy....especially going up stairs or a an incline. Yesterday I had a stress test done ..I lasted only 50 seconds on the treadmill so they finished the test another way. I don't know if I have any arteries that are blocked until my cardiologist calls me with the results. But as I was taking the stress test the doctor said that sometimes the pacemaker needs to be fine-tuned which can be done at the doctor's office.
Have any of you ever heard of fine-tuning?

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
breathing heavy after PM

After a month or so after PM, you should have had your first consultation with the PM interrogated and some sort of fine tuning should be in order. You need to get a diagnosis that the PM had nothing to do with the breathlessness. If the PM is working properly and its correctly set your you, then it has no reason to cause you any breathlessness.
The breathlessness could be symptoms of other cardiac problems and should get attention right away. Examples of other problems could be (1) artery blockages, and (2) arrythmias such as atrial fibrillations. These give rise to breathlessness. The PM does not help these conditions.
Wish you success in getting the correct diagnosis & treatment.
