Surgical services for inplantation of my PM...$8000.00

Hospital bill for 4 day stay, ER visit, pacemaker, testing procedures..........$34,000.00

My 7 year old nephew, hearing someone comment on my new, bionic heart, and then asking if I was now a superhero........PRICELESS

We figure that with the included aftercare visits, plus hospital, Surgical, and ambalance services, the total cost roughly hits close to about $45,000.00. This is the total without our insurance company getting thier discounts, etc. The Medtronic tech told me the cost of my unit was approximately 20,000 to 25,000. My implantation took place April 18, 2007. Hope this helps.

Pacemakers for dogs!

by snipsnapper - 2007-06-28 06:06:07

Maggie the dog's first pacemaker, with all the surgery and hospital stay costs, was about $1800. Her second one was $500. The unit's cost, for the second pacer, was $92 because it was past its expiration date for human use. There you have it! A good comparison in costs.

Australian Cost

I had my pacemaker in Australia in Sept 2004. All inclusive costs: Pacemaker Surgery and hospital was approx $25000 I had private insurance so paid an excess of $50 for one night's accommodation in private hospital. A friend of mine had the same pacemaker and service in the public hospital the week before me and did not have to pay anything. We have one of the best health systems in the world in Austrailai and count ourselves fortunate whether we go private or public. Good luck with your project.

Hello Kate,

I tried Google for an answer to your question and came up with the following. I'm not sure where the pacemakers are available for this price, but based on something I read some months ago I think it may be India. These prices are much lower than the $25,000 I paid for a dual lead pacemaker in 2000. As for accessibility, I think pacemakers are available pretty much throughout the U.S.A. and the prices I hear mentioned most often range from $25,000 to $50,000.

For more information, you might try an e-mail to the address shown at the botttom.

Good luck on your project.

Cardiovascular Pacemaker

Pacemakers are battery-powered implantable devices that function to electrically stimulate the heart to contract and thus to pump blood throughout the body. Pacemakers consist of a pager-sized housing device which contains a battery and the electronic circuitry that runs the pacemaker, and one or two long thin wires that travel through a vein in the chest to the heart. Pacemakers are usually implanted in patients in whom the heart's own "spark plug" or electrical system is no longer functioning normally.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
