Hi Keith,
My son Jake played paintball for a while so I know what it can be like to get hit. He had some nasty looking places. I have a pacemaker! I would say if you are going to play, yes, by all means go buy a chest protector. I got a new pacemaker (#3) in Nov. 06 myself and sometimes it still hurts. Don't give up anything. Ever. Just be more careful and protect yourself especially around your PM area.
ps i got my first one when i was 22.

You could always buy a pair of suspendors, some self-stick velcro, and one of the "SoftTouch" seat belt padder. Just put the suspenders on, attach the SoftTouch, and add extra velcro to keep it in place. It just might work - AND you would have the SoftTouch to use in your car with your seatbelt, too (a 2fer).
