Pacemaker = futile intubation ???

Does anyone know if a patient with a pacemaker would be considered a “futile intubation” prospect ?  I write from NYC where COVID-19 is ravaging our population and where there are too few ventilators.

Futile intubation

Why do you think you're on the extermination list?

oh that was "heartfelt" and

of course a pacemaker wouldn't prevent you from getting the very best care should you need it during this crisis.  Remember too that for the majority of us if we contract Coronavirus it will hopefully be a mild illness and not require hospitalisation.

The best defence is to do everything we can to keep well and there is a lot we can do.  I hope for the very best for you heartfelt and that you will keep your spirits up.  We certainly won't beat this by being downhearted

Don't go there

I understand why such a question would cross your mind, but the answer is unknowable and I cannot see how dwelling on it can do you any good.

Now is the time when we must take firm control of our minds and thoughts and not allow our thoughts to go down wormholes of worry. Worry depresses the immune system.

Take control of everything you can control--and that includes your thoughts. Do everything you can to maintain your health and the health of your immune system. Meditate. Stay in touch with loved ones.

God bless. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Feeling the tension

It's everywhere.  I live with a first responder who comes home from NYC every morning.  He has coworkers who tested positive and one who has passed away.  We are worried about him and us as well.  It is what it is.  I'm not being short....just realistic.  There are so many on the front line for all of us right now.  God bless them.

Keep the faith, stay positive...exercise in the house.  There are many classes including silver sneakers online.  Eat healthy and take vitamins.

If you need to talk, feel free to private message me.  Together we will all get through this.

Futile intubation—I get the question

by SPH123 - 2020-04-06 10:23:01

Hi. Brand new here. I get why you ask that question. We are all on edge. But I don’t see why we would automatically  be on that list. Reality is they may actually have such lists, but from what I’ve read, the people on them are typically those who have otherwise very little chance of coming off the ventilator due to the other health issues or extreme age. Simply having a pacemaker doesn’t mean you have a shortened life expectancy or reasonable expectation of survival. These are scary times but we need to stay as level headed and calm as we can-and stay home!

Best wishes..
