New Boston Scientific pacemaker

Hi

i just got a new Boston Scientific pacemaker implanted today. Once I got home and started walking around I got a strong burning sensation in the middle of my chest. I think it is coming from the wires. Does anyone know what this means or have you experienced this?

Pain from the PM pocket is common

And for some folk it might feel like burning.  More commonly it's a stabbing, pulling pain.

If it worsens or carries on at the same intensity for a day or more call your EP doc, or go to your ER (over the weekend).

There may be local anaesthetic that's wearing off around the skin incision so this is a new pain you've not had before.

My PM was implanted under local only, and I was home 6hr after the op.  But for me, no sense==no feeling.  It hurt a little but not that much.   I was lucky, some folk have a *lot* more pain.

I'd talk to your doc if it keeps up, but do remember that you did literally just have your chest cut open so having some pain comes with the territory

Burning

I waas more like Crusty for the few days after the implant.  After that, it felt like I had a good sunburn on my chest. That went away over the next week or so (just like a sunburn).  It was still sensitive for about eight months.  After two years, it still hurts occaisionally but so does my sternotomy.  Both procedures cut a lot of nerves and messed with pain sensation (both ways) across my chest, particularly the left side.

I think what you're going through is pretty normal but you should call your EP's office if you're really concerned or it gets worse (it should get better). It may also be your stomach acting up.  The heart is immediately in front of the esophagus and it could be irritated. But don't take my advice as medical advice. I'm not a doctor, just giving you my experience.  If you're concerned, seek medical advice.

You know you're wired when...

You have a little piece of high-tech in your chest.
