So, the US CDC is recommending that high risk adults- over 60 with chronic health conditions stay home as much as possible and avoid crowds.
Depending on age, and the heart condition you have, that may be many of us.
My AFIB & PM probaby doesn't count, but for those with heart failure and/or other serious chronic conditions, are you staying home?
BTW, I've found it's almost impossible not to touch your face!

To isolate or not

Hello Violet,
Yes we are getting bombarded with lots of advice here in the U.K. also. Elderly people with chronic conditions should ideally stay away from children who are more likely to catch and pass on viruses, but as a great grandparent and grandparent how can we possibly stop seeing our little ones !!
We are just being sensible and washing our hands frequently, particularly after travelling on public transport in London. We are trying to keep a strong immune system to fight any virus we catch which is all we can do.
Our London Hospitals we attend for cardiology appointments has had confirmed Coronavirus cases so this is a worrying development. Nonetheless we are not isolating ourselves but we are avoiding large crowds, unnecessary socialising and so on. Telephone consultations with our consultants seems to be a popular alternative now to travelling up to see our consultants, I know several people who are leaving London to go to the country to avoid getting infected. But life has to go on and services would come to an end if we all fled London!!
My husband's family in Italy are in a worse position and several family members are now working from home and isolating but their confirmed cases are soaring. Most schools and universities are closed for several weeks to try to slow the spread. We are still relatively in control in the U.K. How about you Violet ? Any confirmed cases near you ??
panic is not helpful

I agree that a lot of it is ridiculous, but sensible precautions against illness, even in flu season, are a good idea. No cases in New Mexico or in Texas where I live. Austin, Texas (not near me--Texas is a big state!) just canceled their biggest annual event.
I'm not isolating myself, but would not, for example, set off on a cruise right now, or fly if I don't have to. If I had an autoimmune disease, I would be more wary. I am more conscious about washing my hands, touching my face, and touching stuff at work that everybody touches.
Staying Home

Only thing "political" about COVID19 is how the current gov't deals with it. Like a certain politco saying one thing to make him feel better and those who actually are knowledgeable being contradictive. We are only in the 1st inning of this game. I'll be in the hosp. in two days for my EP to replace - or try to - my third lead. BTW: In my locations fitness center, I've noticed a lack of hand washing by others after visiting the "john."
It Really is Over Reaction.

Here in the UK, we have been told to wash our hands. I went to the supermarket this morning and there wasn't a single bar of soap left on the shelves, nor were there any cold/flu remedies or toilet paper - ridculous!
I'm 64 and still have a full time job in the Pathology department of a London hospital, so am at risk, not only at work, but travelling on the London Underground. I'm not too worried - catching a cold or flu is just as likely as catching Covid19. All the hand washing in the world will not make a lot of difference, but does no harm, so we might as well take the precaution. If I am unlucky and catch the virus, I'll self-isolate and do whatever my doctor tells me to do, but in the meantime, I'm just going to get on with life.
Let's hope the panic stops soon and everything goes back to normal.
Graham.

This is getting ridiculous. This nonsense didn't happen with SARS or MERS, which were much more dangerous. IMO, it's political more than anything.
