Mammogram?!?!

Hi,

This is for the women (or men with history of breast cancer.)

I'm not on here much because I haven't needed to be. No issues besides bumping my PM pocket, which is still sore.

HOWEVER, my PM was put in pretty quickly, and I didn't think about a mammogram, nobody thought to tell me I should get a baseline. My heart pausing 9.6seconds regularly was much more pressing.

I’ve never had a mammogram. I’m a 42yo female with breast cancer in my family (both gma’s, not mom.) This really freaks me out. I tried to search it and saw everything from FINE to NIGHTMARE! (Can’t go down to google rabbit hole too far.) I've read I need to wait until it doesn't hurt, but I'm clumsy & bump into things like it's my job.

My PM pocket is still store from the injury 11/19, it was put in 4/19. No way I’d let my breasts get smashed right now. I've got an “ample chest,” (does that make a difference?) but have lost some weight so my PM is more noticeable to the touch. Experiences?

Message me if you prefer. I’ve got a PM check next week, but I’d like to hear from others, especially people in my age range or experienced this in any age range.

Thanks in advance,

Take care,

Ashleigh

i use  thermography which is a camera looking at your breast or other parts that you want to have a look see.  accurately measure skin temperature changes.  Such monitoring affords detection of even subtle thermal changes.  you sit in front of the camera and it takes pictures.

Hi,

I'm 38 and have had a pacemaker for 21 years due to congenital complete heart block.  My last PM replacement was in 2016 and I got a baseline mammogram about 2.5 years after that.  The left/PM side was a little tighter than the right side, but otherwise there wasn't a noticeable difference in discomfort.  Just make sure tell the technician that you have a pacemaker.

I know nothing about this subject but it's discussed here, at length, from time to time.  You might want to search the site for more information.

Hi!
Almost 7 months post op and just had a mammogram Tuesday. No worries. I have an ICD. It was painless.

I have had four mammograms post pacemaker implantation and so far no problems or pain. The first one was four and a half months post PM.  I let them know well in advance that I have a pacemaker. The report did state that positioning was limited on the right side due to the pacemaker.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
