Hi thank you for response, it was staysure that quoted me £1245 for my yearly policy, but as you pointed out it might be because I have just recently had the pacemaker fitted and still attending outpatient clinic

I have had a PM now for 8 yrs and have never had any problems with elevated premiums. I bank with the Nationwide who offer free travel insurance with their main current account.
Once you hit the grand old age of 75 you have to pay £50 p.a. which I don't think is too bad.
could be worth exploring

Thanks for the info, Ian MC. I have an account with the Nationwide and had overlooked that - note to self.
Hamish: I agree, £1245 seems to be completely unrealistic, and I couldn't afford that.

I went through the same cycles - also a UK resident. Eventually I ended up with one of the specialist insurers who take on 'high risk' patients. The thing that their evaluation scripts really hate is 'still undergoing active investigations', and the price rockets. But as time went on and things were fixed or didn't recur, the price came down - and my wife is a brilliant negotiator at renewal time.
Staysure, since you ask! We used to pay about £98 pa for a couple, and we had to split the policies, and I went up to about £250, and at one renewal they wanted £350 but that was reduced with some calm logic.
The thing you're really insuring against is repatriation costs - it can easily cost £10k to get back from the Canaries or Balearic islands. The sky's the limit for North America and could break you financially.
Don't hold back, don't withold, be honest and be prepared to spend money.
