As far as I know, everyone is sent home with a remote monitor, anymore.  Some aren't monitord continuously but only use it on a scheduled bais or when needed.  Please give us some more information to help us answer your real question

There are over a million pacemaker patients worldwide.  I suspect that the vast majority are not remotely monitored . I am not, have never been offered it and really don't want it.

I am very happy to rely on how I feel . If I had any concerns I would go for a check-up at the hospital PM clinic rather than having the hassle of continual monitoring.

I guess it depends on how unstable your cardiac condition is.

Mine isn't regularly monitored but I was given the remote box after surgery so I didn't have to show up for every interrogation and in case there were issues that concerned me.  There were, and it was the only way I caught the bigeminal PVCs.  The pacemaker couldn't record them but the remote box could send a real-time EKG when it happened.

Ian, you're the first one I've met who has a recent PM that wasn't also given a remote box. Perhaps it's another one of the Brit NHS things.

Agent …. good question

I have friends here in the UK with ICD's who were given remote monitoring.  As far as I know it is not offered routinely to all implant patients but I may be wrong. I will find out !

In my case I am in normal sinus rhythm and have been for 8 yrs having had a highly successful ablation to treat atrial flutter. My PM ( fitted 8 yrs ago )  successfully controls my Sick Sinus induced bradycardia  I simply cannot see any benefits for me in having  continual PM monitoring and would definitely refuse it if offered.

If , like you, I suffered from additional arrythmias I would possibly think differently.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
