Hi Colleen,
Lenora's absolutely right, and I can't add anything except I had both my leads extracted and replaced last July. Hopefully your Dr. has done these laser assisted extractions. I did very well, no complications, and was in recovery somewhere between 2-3 hours. I wish you the best of luck. Oh, and even the anesthesia has improved! Take care! Bambi

Lead Extraction

The biggest problem with lead extraction in the past has been cutting through scar tissue surrounding the lead. They're now using lasers to ablate scar tissue in many hospitals, a procedure which takes just a few minutes. There is less risk of complications such as bleeding and possible puncture of the heart wall. You might ask your cardiologist who does laser lead extraction in your area. Lenora

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
