Lipitor & Statins

I was in perfect health until I started taking Lipitor. I have been an avid runner for 30 years and days after taking Lipitor I couldn't run one block. I only took it for 2 weeks and stopped. One month later I was in the hospital with a double block and had to have a pacemaker installed. Has anyone else had problems with Lipitor or other statin drugs?

Statin drugs

Hello David - Recently I read an article about statin drugs causing depression and fatigue. I have been on Lovastatin for about 4 years. Got my pacemaker last May. I talked to my PCP about the statin article rrecently and she confirmed what I had read. She told me that there has been good results using Red Yeast Rice to lower cholesterol. My cholesterol currently is 160. I began the supplement 2 weeks ago and 6 weeks from now will have my cholesterol rechecked. Do I feel any different? It is hard to tell at this point in time. I do like the idea that I am taking a natural supplement rather than a laboratory created drug! There is a lot about Red Yeast Rice on the internet. You might want to do some studying and ask your doctor about it. All the major pharmacy chains have it in stock; I bought mine at Walgreens- had a buy one get one free. If you do decide to ask your doctor I will be interested in the answer. I sincerely hope you get to feeling better. Have you been back to your doctor or the EP to discuss your physical status? Take care and God bless you.

Not sure if it was a problem...

David,
I will just say that I only took the satin I was prescribed for two weeks. The side effects do not seem to outweigh the benefits for me. My doctor would probably argue this, but when I started taking it I too was running and very active and immediately my joints began to ache, I was exhausted, and SO irritable. I don't know what will work for you and as we all know there a millions of home remedies out there to try, but I encourage you to really do your research and talk seriously with your doctor about the cost benefit analysis. At least that's what I plan to do at the end of the month when she said it is a "must discuss" issue for my next physical! Good Luck.
