First Pacemaker- Ouch!

So I just got my first sub-pectoral pacemaker implanted on Friday, (Mar 8). Its now Monday. It hurts sooooooo bad! I always thought I had a pretty high pain tolerance. I don't even wanna lift up a cup of coffee that's how bad it hurts. I know they said to expect it to hurt more because it's sub pec, and he put it up closer to my armpit area. My whole left arm/shoulder/peck muscle just aches constantly. How much longer before I get better????

Same pacemaker date

Hello, I got my pacemaker Friday the 8th also. We are pacemaker buddies. I agree with you that I thought I can handle pain well, but wow this hurts. Loving my ice packs. He didn’t say if he went under the muscle or not but he did say he put it deep. Praying we can both find some pain relief and plenty of rest.

Firechick1341-Nice to hear of someone in the same boat as me. Did they tell you to use your arm alot? I am trying to - they told me to use it (within the limited range of motion) and to ditch the sling. I loved the sling. Finally was able to shower today so that felt good. But then felt like I took 10 steps backwards pain wise after that.

Pain after Pacemaker Procedure

I had my pacemaker implanted in the sub pectoral too. It was super painful and I was shocked because everyone told me that it would be a breeze and hardly painful.

I dropped a glass of tea the first week because I couldn't lift it. My left arm was so weak and the shoulder and underarm hurt a lot. I thought I was never going to feel good again.

Luckily, after 5 weeks, I am feeling much better. The pain started going away after about 2-3 weeks. I alternated Aleve and Tylenol, since I wasn't on blood thinners.

My cardiologist didn't prescribe any meds for pain due to the opiod crisis going on everywhere. Frankly, I didn't want to deal with all the  negative affects from taking them either,

Hang in there and know that in a short time, you will begin to feel less pain in that area.

I think that women have a hard time with this procedure anyway. Everyone has a different experience too. What might seem like no big deal to one person, may truly be horrible for someone else.

I always considered myself with a high tolerance for pain. Following this procedure though, I don't believe that anymore. LOL.

Pain after pacemaker

by Deelegend - 2019-03-14 05:11:50

Hello,

I got my pacemaker on the 12th March (2 days ago) it is a relief to know that all this pain is normal!! I almost have a burning pain in the left shoulder too, trying to move my arm a bit and roll my shoulders but Man it really hurts!! I also have a large numb area down my left arm, I hope this settles.I am 57 and usually very active, but this even hurts just walking around 😳🥴

Thanks for the tip on ice packs, I used one on day 1, but then I found it painful to put ice on after that.

Pain

I had my CRT-D implanted sub-pectorial in October and it hurt intially, but after 10 days, I did not notice it much. To me it was well worth any discomfort. There is no real bulge on the surface, and I tend to worry less if my dogs jumped on it. I think it adds a level of extra protection .
