Bum deal

Hi

Had an ICD fitted march 2018 and have been ticking along nicely untill jan2019.had a colonoscopy discoverd a polyp that needs to be removed and I have to go back to have this done.the doctor at the time said I have to have the ICD switched off because of the equipment used.has anybody had this done? There seems to be no pre discussion about this.what are the pitfalls?

Thanks in advance.

Thyroidectomy

by Benjijohn - 2019-02-05 14:01:52

I have crt-d and had a total thyroidectomy about 2 years ago. I had no nodules but my thyroid was overly active, hyperthyroidsm, which was putting extra work on my already problemaric heart

In any case, they switched it off during surgery due to the same reasons you mentioned

I guess it is another thing that we need to deal with it. But I do not think you should be overly concerned about it as the doctors take the necessary precautions and they switch it on right after surgery before you even wake up.

good luck, wish you the best

I'm sure you would be well monitored between when they turn it off and they turn it back on.

If they don't turn it off....

If they don't turn it off and it desides to fire while doc is cutting it would be very dangerous.  You will be monitored and if needed the doc will stop and they'll either switch it back on or provide external therapy, but either way, the doc will know and it won't be a suprise.

Thanks

I am 100% paced and if my pm is turned off my natural beats are only 30 bpm.  I think it would be a big problem for me to have it turned off.

Do you know what % you are paced?  And if turned off how will you do on your own?

When I go in for a check up my pm doc does turn it off and literally 5 to 10 seconds later I’m starting  to black out, so he makes it very quick.

Ask questions and find out answers to these questions for yourself.
