Scuba Diving

Hi all,

just typed scuba dive into search and nothing came up, although I am sure this may have been discussed before.

My question is...

Can you Scuba dive with a PM? If so, are there any restrictions? Depth etc.

What word did you search? Scuba has come up twice just in the last few weeks :o)  Call your manufacturer for your specific device settings but many of them are rated to 4 atm.

Thank Tracey

Scuba diving and PMs

I stopped diving when I had my PM fitted.

They say the  PM case is OK down to about 25-30 metres. It depends on the type of device.

We regularly used to dive  below that depth in a group. I have been cave diving, night diving, deep diving.

Do I want to be a liability to others?  Do I trust what the manufacturer says and does?

Could the device have a flaw?

On top of all of that there is the question of arrhythmia. Certainly, for me, I did not fancy an attack of atrial fibrillation, or flutter, brought on by the physical stress of a dive. A heart rate of 150+ at 30 metres with decompression time is not going to be a pleasant experience.

Having dived at Plymouth one Easter ( in the snow) I was freezing. A week later someone on the same boat we used had a heart attack under water, and did not survive.

I now snorkel. It has been a wonderful experience from Hawaii to Indonesia, whether swimming with sea snakes or manta rays- some of my best photos have actually been  snorkelling.

Good luck if you want to continue to dive. You need insurance. You need understanding buddies. You will not be able to go to any significant depth. Whether PADI ( Pay and Die in the Water) will actually let you dive is another matter? You will probably have to have another medical.

Thanks Selwyn

Your response was very helpful. I am seeing the technician in January. Will have a chat then

You know you're wired when...

You name your daughter “Synchronicity”.
