Shotguns

My pacemaker was placed to clear me for urgent surgery. I told surgeon I was a lifelong sporting clays shooter and upland hunter who shoots left handed and he thought it wouldn't be in way. (Not a shooter). Turns out it's exactly where the stock of the gun is placed when properly mounted.  I want to return to my sport but I'm being told by surgeon and Medtronic to just put the gun on the other side which is no option at all.  I'm exploring low recoiling gun with shoulder pads.  I'd love to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem

I'd be furious! That's one of the very few things that are difficult if it's not placed lower and you told them in advance. If you read my other posts, you'll see I'm usually the first one to push the envelope and go for it but I'd be really hesitant to shoot a shotgun if the stock was right on my device or near my leads. Give the low recoil a try and see how it feels, but you might want to talk to another doctor about repositioning it. It would mean another surgery, but it would be minor and you could continue to comfortably shoot.

Thanks Tracy. I’m looking at recoil pads made by one of the clubs sponsors hoping to hear from them soon

Wow, that sucks.

Sry man. Avid shorter here myself, got Pacer on the left (I'm a righty), then they moved it to the right after a minor infection. Got frustrated and sold my shotguns. I had too many complications to create one for myself, but in hindsight I think there are options. I understand why I reacted the way I did, I was in a hard place. Keep us posted if you find a solution, there will be others after you searching for the same answer.

Common Sense

Common sense tells you that you can only pound on the pacemaker and leads before you damage the leads.  And if you're an avid shhoter.....  My Dr. switched my pacemaker to the left side several years ago.  Said that the shotgun theory wasn't correct.  BUT, he doesn't shoot a shotgun.  If you place the pm on the right side you, for sure, won't have a problem.

I will now go back to practicing shooting a bow and arrow.

Good luck, my friend.
