Scar treatment

How soon after surgery (most recent, 3rd October) can I start using silicon to reduce my scarring?

It isn't the appearance that bothers me,but it's 'sticking' when I rotate my shoulder backwards (which I need to do to reduce the internal scarring from when the pacemaker took up residence on the edge of my armpit for two weeks. Plus I'm working towards starting an exercise programme (after 15 years not able to do anything, I need to get active again) and I don't want the scar to reduce my flexibility.

And yes, I know that medical grade vitamin E would be a better choice, but I haven't been able to source that, unfortunately

Shoulder movement

Robin1,

Sorry, I wasn't clear. My shoulder has a full range of movement, but the internal scarring in the armpit makes some things uncomfortable (not majorly so unless one of my cats lies on my side and forces the arm backward -- and of course my priority is the comfort of the Little Monsters); this will improve with time, as long as I keep the shoulder mobile. Certainly, I know that nothing applied topically will improve the situation!

My concern was about the wound scar, which is pulling when I exercise. I want to get to the point where I don't need to think about exercising because nothing reminds me that I have a scar.

As an (humorous) aside, is there any data on interactions between silicon and cats? I've already had the Major Little Monster remove various dressings just because he can... if he's ging to fiddle with a silicon scar sheet, I need to find an alternative overnight or do without!

Maybe you need a CAT scan to check the damage  : )
