Golfing with icd

Just had Icd implanted October 12 2018. 2 days ago. I know it’s too soon to ask when can I start playing golf?

Give it a rest this week !

Hi Jimbo    Welcome to the club . One of life's mysteries is that I could putt before I got a pacemaker.  Now my putting is a total embarrassment ..... maybe the putter is faulty !

I  attempted to do a round 6 weeks after implant but my body was telling me just to do a half-swing .  At 8 weeks I felt fine and could play normally but some Drs take a more conservative line and advise  waits of anything up to 12 weeks !!

I think you will know when you are ready to play and I hope that all of the chipping and putting practice which you do in the next few weeks will pay off.

Best of luck

Ian

Ease into it and don't go out and try to drive 300 yards right away.

golf season is almost done in the northeast anyway. I’ll play again next spring and make sure everything is intact.

Appreciate the comments about golf: my number one hobby and concern. I’m two weeks since implant of my pm. I’m hoping to get back to the course in December. I’m in So Cal, so we have a year round season.

My surgeon was definitely aware of my golf activities, so I hope the pm will stay in place and the golf swing will not be affected. Well, no more than it was before surgery. Ha.

I’m concerned the shoulders and biceps will need to be toned after I’m able to raise arm above shoulder, and I’m anticipating it will take a few weeks after that to get a comfortable golf swing again.

Wishing us all the best!

Back To Golf

I had my PM installed about 2 weeks ago, and was told by my doctors yesterday that I could resume regular activities. I live on a golf course, and have played regularly for more than 50 years. I tried hitting a few balls yesterday, and could definitely feel the PM with each swing. I am 83, and thought I was in good condition before the implant, but am reluctant to take a full swing. One concern is the bulge in my skin where the device is located just below the shoulder bone. Is this normal?

love golf. I told my surgeon don’t mess up my golf swing before surgery. 😂 he didn’t. He gave me the all clear 4 wks post implant. I played 4 wks and all was good. Go by what your doctor says. I’m learning who ever placed the leads know their track record for dislodgement. My doc is pretty confident mine won’t budge! I had no over head restrictions, no sling, just said no prolong reaching over your head for 4 wks.

I have an ICD which is both a pacer/defib. I have no problems with mine and it has saved my life.
