My dad is 100% dependent on his pacemaker defibrillator unit. The turned off one lead to lower chamber today because it was kicking his diaphragm so much it affected his breathing and he couldn't sleep. They are planning lead extraction in 10 days. There are 5 or 6 leads, some of which have been there since 1998. Any idea what his procedure and recovery will be like?

I had three leads extracted and no problem. In fact I was back up and at em the next morning. They have a laser sleeve that is used to cut scar tissue away from the lead and remove the lead. This is usually performed by an EP. They usually have a Cardio Thoracic surgeon on stand by in case. Make sure you get an EP who has lots of experience with extractions and it should go pretty well.
Good luck
