Pacemaker to ICD

Hi is it unusual to have a pacemaker taken out and a ICD put in ? I had a Boston scientific duel chamber pacemaker put in in London last October, I then flew back to Madeira where I live most of the time the ,I've had bad arithmia and the consultant here says I may have to have the ICD . Thanks.

if our hearts change, they sometimes change what they recommend we have, yes. ICD's are also pacemakers so you won't lose any pacing function. You'll get the added safety net of the defib in case you have a dangerous arrhythmia.
