When admitted to hospital I was MORIBUND, dead,. I was on life support, therfore unable to authorise anything. My next of kin were not notified. It was implanted to make some doctor feel good about himself.

Why do I suspect you'd be here complaining if they had let you die?

Find somebody who'll shut you down...please for our sakes.

ICD doesn't keep you alive, it prevents sudden cardiac death.

If it is just an ICD and not a pacemaker with an ICD then turning it off won't kill you. It's a cardiac event that will kill you. Having it will shock you back to life, and some of the newer ones have pacing capabilities to assist with low heart rate. It's mainly used for trying to pace you out of a bad rythm instead of shocking you but can help with bardycardia as well.

Are you sure you know whatyou are talking about. If you have arythmia The ICD keeps your heart at the right pace. Turning it off , if your heart is bad, YOU WILL DIE.

In most cases the ICD is there as a safety net, otherwise they use on of the more advanced CRT units. On an ICD, if they turn it off, it ONLY turns of the shocking feature but NOT the pacing feature. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Then again, different manufacturers and models may have different features so speaking for my device options. Yes, I checked after I got the ICD storm because that was not a fun experience and at one point in the ambulance I ask if they could turn it off. They can also use a magnet to disable the shock feature and sometimes do that when testing some of the settings. Or so I've read.
