Hi. I’m 2 days post PM dual chamber for exercise induced heart block. In the last 24 hrs my heart will randomly beat funny. It will pound and beat hard for about 5 mins. I don’t have any symptoms with it. It almost feels like when they did the interrogation the morning after surgery. He told me it will do that once every 23 hrs but it’s happened 3 times in less than 24 hrs. What is it and should I be worried or it’s normal? Since my PM is for when I exercise, I would think it shouldn’t be pacing me at all since I can’t exercise yet. My limits are set to 40-160.

I called my doctor and he told me to send him ekg strips since I have a kardia band when it happens again. Sent him the strip and he said it’s junctional rhythm. So I have an appointment later today to adjust my PM. THis is all new. Never had issues with my SA before. So not sure what is going on. He just said I shouldn’t feel the PM pacing me.
only two days in

Tuning is common. Granted my first one was 30 years ago and what was manual then and took a number of trips is mostly automatic now. Maybe TraceyE will hop in here to correct me on the time period. But it takes some number of weeks if not months for the scar tissue to form which has some effect on the electrical response. Thus the few weeks then six months then one year visits and by one year if its running smooth then once a year until the battery gets lose.
True it shouldnt be pacing you at all. You are probably tired from not being able to get comfortable to rest or sleep, axious based on your prior post(s) about this decision, etc. So that wont help, in addition to it hopefully only needing a few tweaks.
heart block is easy for pacers to fix, if that is your condition then this should work great for you, just have to transition into it.
good luck. let us know how it goes.
Heart block is easy to fix?

So I went in yesterday to get adjusted. They did some adjustments and changed my limits from 40-160 to 60-160. Turned off the self test. My doctor was surprised I was in a junctional rhythm. He thinks it should have been out by now. So now he thinks I may have a sinus node exit block issues along with the AV node or it’s been the SA anode the whole time. It happened again last night so I have no idea why since junctional is 40-60. I thought mine would be pretty easy too. I’m patient so hopefully they will get it tweeekd right.

Could it be a PAC over-ride function?

I just got a PM ten days ago and it does have this function--meaning when it detects PACs it will speed up briefly (not as long as 5 min) so that my heart will follow the regular rhythm of the PM rather than continuing with the PACs--which aren't a regular rhythm. This is meant to prevent the PACs from turning into Afib. A number of the newer models seem to have this feature.
I've felt it kick in a few times since I got my PM and it just feels like a short run of tachy. Could that be what is happening for you?
