Pain control

I have my PM surgery tomorrow 😬 and the dr said they only give Motrin for pain control post-op. What are your opinions on this? Were you given pain medicine after the procedure? I’m having them place mine under the muscle which she said will be significantly more painful and if it were her she wouldn’t choose that. Just wondering if this is standard practice or just my dr...

thanks!

norm

that's the norm...well I was told to take tylenol (acetaminophen)  Motrin is bad for heart patients. Motrin (an NSAID) can increase the risk of stroke and heart attack just to mention a few pleasant side effects for those with heart disease who are at increased risk.

I hope they will give you the option of something stronger. I was prescribed Percocet and definitely needed it!

Pain control after implant

I just had mine implanted under the pectoral last Friday (3 days ago). They gave me ibuprofen IV in recovery once the Versed and Fentanyl wore off. I had the option of a short course of opiods but didn't take it--and it was painful--but now on the 3rd day, it is just an annoyance. Just had a checkup on the incision and an interrogation and I'm pacing 99% of the time.

They told me to take tylenol if I didn't want opiods but the tylenol really did nothing. What did help a lot was arnica and Rescue Remedy. Just told my EP that this is what I'd taken and she agreed that it should help.

Good luck! Once they start chilling you out through your IV, it should be an interesting experience.

I needed a couple days of vicodin just to sleep.

Extra strength acetaminophen did not do much for me.  Icing helped followed by heat.  I had pain for several weeks.

They gave me an Rx for week's worth of Percs but I didn't need, or take, any.  I don't like opioids, so would have only taken them if they were really needed.

Thanks everybody! I’m pretty nervous bc my EP said getting it under the muscle was definitely more painful 😬. I’ll deal with it if I have to but I’d rather they just throw me a couple days of opiates just in case. Whoever said pendulum effect was absolutely correct. Thanks for all the input. This is my first pm so I’ll report back  in a few days

Good luck! I hope all goes well for you. Definitely better to have the opiods and not use them, than to wish you had them! I only took 2 days and then was fine. Let us know how it goes!

I just had an ICD implanted under the muscle on Momday. I found that Tylenol extra strength works for me. Tried Motrin but it upset my stomach.

Tylenol and Motrin.

I have only needed Tylenol and Motrin. I didn’t have mine under the muscle. My doctor suggested I not because of my age 46 and the potential for scar tissue and replacement problems in the future. Im 2 days post and doing well.
