Post PM implant driving

How long did the drs require you to not drive? Mine gave a range of 7-14 days no driving? Is that the norm following the initial implant procedure? Driving me crazy! I know I need to exercise patience, any advice is appreciated....

Driving after PM surgery

Will your seatbelt be over where your pacemaker is implanted?  If so, whenever you start to drive remember to have a good bit of padding to protect the wound from rubbing, which may carry a risk of infection.

Seatbelt

I find that a pad adjusted so its edge rests halfway between the sternum and PM works better.  Instead of the pad resting directly on the PM, the pad lifts the shoulder harness over the PM.  I have a pad that wraps around the belt and fastens to itself with velcro.  It's easily adjusted so that it doesn't rest on the PM (which is still quite sensitive after almost 6 months).

I could not and did not drive for 30 days.  I had an ICD implanted.  The comments above about seatbelts are right on.

I didn't drive

I was unable to drive due to a CVA that left me with neuro issues (left field neglect) due to Coumadin and Heparin. If someone told me I had to wait I would wait and count my blessings. It's all in how you look at it. I wish you the best.

2 weeks for me

by Sharon M. - 2018-08-09 20:23:15

I took a "vacation" from driving from 2 weeks, and was happy enough to do so. Did plenty of walking for exercise, and friends took me places. It was nice to be taken care of a bit. But if it's 7-14, days for you, base it on how you feel. Shoulder or chest hurts? Wait a bit.

When you start driving agan: I have a great shearling seat belt cover which gives me all the protection from rubbing that I need. It hurts if the seat belt is directly on my PM. Look it up online. search <shearling seat belt cover> and you'll get tons of hits. Good luck!

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
