Morning all-
I’m planning a trip to Colorado (a first one since getting my pacemaker), should I have any concerns with the altitude and my pacemaker?
Thanks!

The pacer doesn't care what altitude it's at. The underlying reason why you have it may make you more sensitive to altitude. Stay hydrated, take it easy the first day or two.

So called altitude sickness is usually due to dehydration. Drink extra water and take it easy first couple of days. It takes anywhere from three to six weeks for the body to generate enough extra red blood cells for the altitude but if you aren't doing any strenuous exercise you should be OK.

Hi there. Got my first pacemaker May 21 and did a hike up to 11,500 feet three weeks ago with no problems. Saw my Medtronic guy last week and he asked what I was doing the day of the hike - report showed higher heart rate (I have no max set). When I told him about the hike he was excited and encouraged me to continue. He was unaware of any information on altitude and pacemakers. Enjoy the mountains!
You know you're wired when...
You play MP3 files on your pacer.

Altitude

We drove to Yellowstone and the Tetons last September, my first trip there since getting MY pacemaker. I was quite nervous, asked my NP a lot of questions ahead of time. But I had NO trouble with the altitude. Driving may have helped since it was a gradual climb. My biggest issue was my fear of heights, which has nothing to do with the pacemaker! I went at my own pace, slowed down when I felt slightly out of breath, but was able to do everything I wanted. Which was pretty tame, I must say, and I don't know your level of activity that is planned. Just make sure you stay hydrated at all times! Listen to your body and have a good trip!
