They don't want us swimming because of risk of infection. Showers are fine.
Just now taking showers after 6 weeks

i agree with the other fine posters- wash around the incision area to primarily get off the sticky dressing residue. In my case, I had to repeat it over several days to get some stubborn spots of dressing residue off. The nurse at the electrophysiologist office gave me some lube packets to loosen up the residue.
But after washing carefully, I patted the area dry. I found after about 2-3 weeks after bandage was removed, the area became cleaner, till now , after 6 weeks, only a very small incision line can be seen.
Bottom line, be gingerly with the would site. I found that after a few weeks of healing I became less tender in the wound area and resumed normal shower practices.
Get well soon!

Had my PM put in 5 days ago. I could remove dressing and take a shower the next day. The insision has steri strips and just need to let them peel off by themselves. No other dressing or special care was needed. THe shower was a bit hard since our stall is on the small side. SO all I did when I had to face the shower stream was put my right hand over the site and that worked great.. Now, not raising my left arm or rotating it behind me is a whole other issue!
Nervy about showering.

I was told that once the dressing came off I could shower but no indication on how long to leave the dressing on. I was a bit anxious about what I would find so after a few days I asked the nurse at our GP practice to take it off and check the stitches.
Despite being told showering was safe, the wound still looked a bit sore so I wrapped my upper half in clingfilm to keep the water and shampoo off. I looked like those wrapped cases you see at airports but it worked and after a couple of months all is nicely healed.

It should be no problem but don't spray directly on the wound and pat it dry, no rubbing. My EP just said no shower for 24hrs and no baths for a month.
