Sholder Pain

Had PM surgery last Friday, 6/22.  Received a double chamber Medtronic, which was placed in the Left Upper Chest.  The next day, Saturday, 6/23, along with the usual PAIN, I started experiencing Left Sholder pain that continues today.  If I move my Left arm in certain directions, the shoulder pain is unbearable.  It seems to be a dull-burning pain, that I believe to be nerve -pain??

Any of you folks experience this, if so did  it pass and how long did you suffer with it??

As a side note: Two days prior to PM placement I had a Heart Cath, performed thru the Left wrist.  For days after I experienced what the RN-NP called Arterial Spazams in the Left Radial Artery, and was put on 800mg of Ibuprofin which has cut that pain by 80%

Within just over a week, your left side has had two procedures that may have left interior bruising and soreness.   Give yourself some time to heal, take OTC pain meds as needed but keep using that arm.  You dont want to baby it, or you can get a frozen shoulder.

Ice it, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.  That should help with the pain as well.

When we under go procedures, are cut open etc, it takes time to heal and we do get all kinds of strange pangs, pains and aches.  What you've had done is life saving and the recovery is usually pretty straight forward.  Yes, it takes time but try to keep busy.  The less you focus on it, the better it will be for you.

Best Wishes,

Pain

Yes, I had lots of pain.  Extra strength acetaminophen only helped a little.  Ice helps.  I tried heat also.  I kept moving my arm daily as my EP directed.  It took me over two months before tapering off pain meds.  Then a couple more months before it was reasonably tolerable.  Throughout, I exercised daily and in moderation to help get back to full use.

Your situation is more complicated, having experienced more trauma. It has been a week for you since your PM surgery and you should be scheduled for a normal follow up with you doctor soon, so recommend discussing your situation at that visit.

I know it is VERY tough now, but the good news that you will gradually recover.  I wish you the best!

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic man.

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
