Dizziness 4 days post implant

Hello all,

I just joined as I had a pacemaker implanted 6/21/18 for a slow beat.

I have been feeling dizziness, a little all the time and a significant amount when I get up after laying down or crouching down.

I also feel some tiredness.

Is this normal, or is it something that I should call about before my appointment in 3 days?

Thanks for your help!

I was tired after getting pacemaker

by tedd - 2018-06-25 21:14:36

I too had a recent pacemaker. I was tired from the operation and laying about the days before wondering what is going to happen.

Took me a few weeks to get somewhat back to normal.

i went into work a little late, and left early.

i usually slept when I got home, feeling more refreshed in the evening.

Now, 5 weeks later, I don't feel quie so tired. I am 68 years old, so I am not going to react like a spring chicken.

if you still feel tired, I would call the doctor to discuss this with him. But, even though pacemaker surgery is getting safer and becoming more common, it is still an operation and might have taken some energy out of us for a few weeks that we will have to regain slowly but surely.

I can say, after 5 weeks I steadily feel stronger. But some days are better than others. Give yourself credit that you saw the operation through, and take time to recover. I wish you well.

Thanks!

Thanks, Tedd!

I guess I will give myself a little credit.

Actually, I am feeling better.  I think I was expecting to just feel perfect afterwards, and that's probably unrealistic.

Thanks for taking the time to type a line!

Mention it

It's not an emergency, but when you see the doc, do mention that you are dizzy upon standing up, or after crouching down.

It could be that some tweaks to your settings are in order.

Thank you

Dizziness

by always2211 - 2018-06-28 11:29:47

I am 1 month out Boston Sci. dual chamber PM. Two days after implant I was getting dizzy with low heart rate. I called MD first thing in the moring I was told push button on my Lattude communicator. So they could have an up to date reading on my PM. 30 min. later I was informed to go to the hospital at 2:00. They could tell that one of my leads had dislodged. They repositioned the lead. Had my 30 day check up with the tech. Everthing seems fine. Now its time to get back to normal life.

Dizziness

I was feeling a little dizzy 3 days postop. The nurse told me to get up and down more slowly and drink more water. Today is day four. The stairs are still a little challenging. I don’t think I was well prepared for postop symptoms including being so tired, the swelling and the bruising.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
