Hi all.
Medtronic Surescan implanted for AV Block, second degree, on 5/21/18. Healthy, active 45 yo female and all went well. Woke up at 3:30 am a week later to tickling on my chest - was blood seeping from incision. Doctor admitted me and cleaned it up on a Weds and sent me home with antibiotics. Thursday night I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and was admitted again. Friday morning they did surgery again to cauterize the heck out of me because my blood was not clotting and they thought maybe there was an infection. Incision had not sealed properly from the beginning. Just released from hosptial yesterday. Pacemaker is fine and no infection but on a new kind fo antibiotics just in case.
Last night I could not sleep at all. I was worried about my heart stopping, bleeding again, infection, everything heart-related. I am normally an extremely controlled and relaxed person and have never felt angry like this or anxious. Any suggestions for this anxiety? I am sure it will pass with time but feel like I am spending a lot of time focused on this. I am also now scared to take my new antibiotics meds for fear of another allergic reaction and already dreading PM replacement in the future. Ugh. No prior medical conditions and overall irritated that I am two weeks out from PM implant and starting over from day one with recovery.
Thanks for listening.
Kass

Hey!
I’m Eilish, I’m 21 and I have had a pacemaker for 10 years now. Everything you are feeling is normal. But just remember you are safe. your pacemaker is working and that’s what is important!
When you feel anxious just try and breath and try and distract yourself. Don’t google! Because google is never good. Even now I get worried and down and annoyed that I have a pacemaker and scared of what the future will hold. But, positivity is key. And just keep asking questions, any questions. If you are ever ever worried tell somebody. Things will get better. Soon you will forget you even have a pacemaker.
