Hi 18 months ago I had my pacemaker and leads removed due to infection. It took the surgeon 6 hours and apparently a difficult op. I am now due to have a new pacemaker installe under the muscle so scared.

Nutrition can make a difference

Having had an infection, who wouldn't be concerned?
I think one of the best ways to fight fear is to take control of whatever I can control. For instance, one thing you can do before the surgery is make sure your body has everthing it needs nutritionally to fight infection and heal cleanly. Anything you can do to strengthen your immune system will pay off in improved health overall---and that will translate into enhanced recovery.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Infection

It's understandable to be worried after a previous bad experience like that. How long had you had that pacemaker before the infection? Do you think it was infected from day one, so to speak, or got infected whilst recovering at home? Will it be the same hospital and surgeon this time, or somewhere else?
