2 weeks ago I had Icd replacement and have swelling around Icd replacement. But no redness or draining. It looks like it almost healed and don't remember it being this swollen the first time Icd was implanted in my chest. I had a follow up last week and doctor was happy with healing and never said anything about swelling in NY chest. John B

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.

Is it new or has it been that way since the surgery? If it's new, ask to be seen again and insist on cultures. It could be residual swelling from surgery, or it could be the first sign of infection. Hopefully it's just normal swelling but on the off chance there's more to it, it's important to be proactive and aggressive. The longer it takes to diagnose, the less chance of getting it before the whole system has to be removed so that's why cultures are so important, so you get on the right med asap.
If it's been there since the surgery, it's probably just fluid. Try either ice or a heating pad on low.
