My mother's heart was punctured during pacemaker surgery. This led to a horrible stroke and a feeding tube.

I am looking for others who know of this happening during pacemaker surgery. My mother was left blind, paralyzed and dementia set in. I chose to have the feeding tube removed and she died a month later. I’m trying to locate people who have had similar experiences. I have retained a lawyer...

This has left me devastated, especially since I was never contacted by the surgeon who pierced her heart.

So sorry....

Fortunately such complications as you described are extremely rare. I doubt if you will find many people who share your experience.

My heart goes out to you in your grief. Loss of one's mother is hard even when the passing is expected and peaceful. Hopefully, you can find a group where you can share your grief, even though the members may not have had the exact experience of their loved one's passing.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Complications

If you are located in the US, every patient or their legal representative must sign a waiver acknowledging that these complicstipns ate a possible side effect of implant surgery. It"s rare but does happen.

The surgeon cannot legally inform you about medical conditions unless you have legal power of attorney. Being her daughter does not convey legal standing.

It's truly sad your mother suffered these complications but I have to say witholding feeding for a month seems cruel way to end someone's life.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
