Had my PM put in on December 5th 2017 and after the initial anxiety and some discomfort I'm here to tell any newbie looking for a positive post...I am doing fine. After a month I still have to watch what I do with my arm and my doc doesn't want me playing golf for another couple of months but I'm feeling better than I did before the implantaion so worth the wait. There is still some heaviness and minimal pain in and around the pocket area but it gets better every day and a lot of the time I'm forgetting its there. So try and relax for the first couple of weeks and you should be just fine. My review: It's not that bad.

golf or not

Well Jerry, if there is one thing I have discovered in this process is that there are big differences in the post surgical protocol. My Doc sure seems to be on the conservative side and quite frankly I'm ok with that. I'm an avid golfer but for me I can live without it for awhile if I'm insuring that I'm not going back in for a revision. I realize the statistics show very little recidivism rate with the leads but I'm going to listen to what my guy says. I'm working on my short game which needs the time...believe me.
Golf, etc.

I'm encouraged with what is posted above, but I still have my doubts. I got my PM last Friday. There's not a lot of pain now, but as others have written, my pocket area feels "heavy." I still can't sleep unless I'm flat on my back. I'm more concerned; however, about getting back to doing the things I enjoy doing. For those of you who golf, I'm interested to know your timelines for returning to golf. My doctor told me to forget about golf for two months, and to listen to my body. It may take longer. I've been golfing 40+ years. I'm concerned that I will never get back to where I was pre-PM. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Let me tell you this: one month ago I was exactly where you are...with pocket pain and heaviness and not being able to sleep unless on my back and the same anxiety you are having...the same. But today I can tell you all of it is subsiding and I'm thinking now all is going to be fine. There is still a little tenderness and a little heaviness but it is starting to fade and I feel good. Hang in there. Now as far as your activities are concerned, I would listien to your doctor. All the guys I know who have PM's and play golf who sucked still suck, and those who were good are still good. I predict you will be back and your handicap will not change due to your pacemaker.
Golf etc. etc. etc.

Thank you for your post, Orthobone. It gives me hope and lessens my anxiety.
Conservative

My doctor was conservative with initial implantation as well. I got mine down in MUSC at Charleston, SC by a pediatric cardiologist in 2007. I wore a sling for a month, couldn't drive or work. I'd say after two months I was allowed to raise my arm. With my battery replacement I was sweeping the back deck that afternoon!! It really isn't bad, is it? Glad to hear you're doing well.
You know you're wired when...
You have a maintenance schedule just like your car.

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
Golf

You should have had my doctor. I was playing golf in less than six weeks. I just had a new hip installed, so with that I can't play golf for a couple months. But, come on. you live in the nice weather. You should be able to get out a lot sooner than a couple more months.
Good luck,
Jerry
