Generic for Toprol XL

My mail- in pharmacy sent me a letter saying they can no longer get the generic for Toprol XL. I asked at my local CVS and they agreed it's almost impossible.
Of course, I'll have to pay a much larger Co pay for the brand name. Has anyone else run into this problem?? I know many of you are also on this drug...

Thanks,
Suze

Hello-
You could talk with your Dr about other beta blocker medications that are similar to Toprol XL.
They do have a metoprolol that is not extended release like the Toprol XL. The main difference as it was explained to me is that the regular metoprolol has to be taken 2 times a day rather than taking the Toprol once a day. There are a lot of other beta blockers out there too. Toprol and it's little relatives are the most readily prescribed. Your Dr's office may even have sample available.
You should definitely talk to your Dr and never discontinue or change your meds without talking to them first.
I am on carvedilol also known as coreg as I am allergic to all types of metoprolol. They've tried them all on me :-)
Good Luck-
Candi
