I discovered this forum a week or so ago and have really enjoyed the good information and insights.  Here's the deal:. I'm 61 years old,. Ejection Fraction of 16, severly dialated left ventricle, global hypokinesis, moderately dialated left atrium.  On the positive side, I have absolutely zero arterial plaque, no edema and no CHF.  I am 40 to 50 lbs overweigt but I'm working on that.  I am scheduled for a n ICD implant on 10/25.

I am right in the center of the emotional spectrum, one end is complete apprehension and the other end is excitement.  I'd like to ask the group, what can I expect?  Is anybody willing to share their experiences, expectations, lessons learned and outcomes?  Thank you in advance for your kind responses.

pre ICD

Just joined this club......I also will be receiving an ICD in approx. 2 weeks... required emergency open heart 3 months ago, 5 bipasses...that went as well as could be expected and prevented further damage to heart.  I apparently had false negative results of treadmill tests over the yrs. due to the severity of the blockages according to my new cardio team.   Current problem ventricular rhythms...out of synch....female, 69 y/o.  I am thrilled that something can help my poor endurance, but thought the bypasses would do it.  Unaware of the severe damage to the muscle...........Now, it will be corrected, thank God.  A bit apprehensive of course, but reassured these new devices are definitely life savers and I am all for that.  It does help to communicate with others and become more and more knowledgeable on the subject......I look forward to resuming more and more activities as I am sure you are also.......take care...Dee

Thank you for the comments Dee.  I certainly do understand the apprehension.  I wish you good luck with your upcoming procedure.  Please do keep the PM Club up to speed on your progress.

Life saver

At 59 years old, this whole (and sudden) heart issue is scary.

If I chose not to have my ICD Pacemaker I wouldn’t be here right now... late Oct I went into V. Fib (200bpm) the ICD put up a relentless battle shocking me 35 times in about 45min, it was the scaryist day of my life.  They put 2 stents in and added new meds... including a low dose of Xanax as needed for panic attacks.  The aftermath is not easy! I’m seeking support groups etc so I can share and hear shares.... I have to live with this.... key word: LIVE!

All the best to you :)
