Medical costs

I have recently posted on this site for the first time. I have received some fabulous advice and information. I enjoy reading your quotes which appear at the bottom of the page. But today's quote mentioned an ICD mortgage. I'm from England so NO medical costs but am I correct in thinking that you must pay for this life saving treatment in USA?

Medical costs

OMG I had no idea. I lived my early life in Eastern Canada where Medicare paid for most things I think, then I moved to England. We pay for our own dental care (set rate of $40) and optical care $40 per examination plus spectacles (unless on benefits), prescriptions are at a set rate of about $16 and does not vary until you hit 60 then they are free. All pensioners have a free national bus pass as well for local busses in every town (excludes coaches like Greyhounds). I didn’t appreciate how good we had it here! So what happens if you are seriously ill but are just above the threshold for goverment help?

frustrating

isn't it frustrating when replies are erased after the fact?

Healthcare in the US is quite ugly right at this moment in time, you may well have heard some of the nonsense about politicians trying to repeal what is known here as Obama Care (AKA Affordable Care Act), most of the problem is driven by partisian politics without concern to the impact on people's lives. Sadly many fall through the cracks and die because they can't afford healthcare or can't get it due to pre-existing conditions.

I keep hoping we will adopt healthcare system similar to Canada or the UK, but at this moment in time, America has lost it's way and caring about one another and plain logic seems to have fled our shores.

I just thank the lord every day that our politicians have great healthcare and don't need to worry about spending their money on insurance.

Response to “frustrating”

What value a life? I doubt they keep stats for deaths due to poverty! Thank you for your common sense and heartfelt comment.
