Hello. I had a 3 lead pacer installed August 2014. Was decided November 2016 that I needed an ICD upgrade due to low EF. August 2017 I received 33 inappropriate shocks in a 2 hour period. ER was unable to stop shocks with the magnet, it took the St. Jude Rep. and her computer to stop the shocks. It was brutal. I kept being aske if I had been in an accident or had I fallen. I had not. They just could not understand how this happened. My doctor took the St. Jude out the next day, and replaced it with a Medtronic. He was very upset about the situation, largely because over a period of time he had just installed 100 of the same model. (St. Jude CD3369-40Q) He told me that he had found 2 other cases (in Turkey) of the same problem/same model. As most everyone knows, even appropriate shocks can cause anxiety and sometimes PTSD. One bad thing for me was that it started at 10:04 p.m. just as I was drifting off to sleep. I know it is irrational, and I am not usually subject to anxiety, etc., but I have not even attempted sleep until after 10:04 since the event. Even after that most nights it is difficult to get to sleep as I keep re-living the episode. The doctor told me also that the "can" showed no outward signs of damage. Anyone out there hear of this before? (the inappropriate shocks to this extent) Thanks.

Sound more obscene than inappropriate.
So sorry you had to endure that. Your response is completely understandable.
Speaking to a professional as stated above may help you. I wish you well.

Thanks

Thanks for the sympathy and advice. I will likely do just what you two have suggested.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
Sheesh!

What a nightmare! I'm so sorry you've had such a difficult time.
After your experience, not wanting to go to sleep before 10.04 sounds perfectly rational to me. Who wouldn't have some anxiety?
If relieving the episode continues, you might want to seek help from a professional skilled in treating PTSD.
